When blink-182 announced a one-off show with Alkaline Trio late last month, people speculated that a Matt Skiba reunion would be in store—and they were right!
The surprise came during the sixth song of the night, when blink played "Bored to Death" off their 2016 album California, which they recorded with Skiba. Mark Hoppus jokingly introduced his former bandmate to the stage as a contest winner. “When we announced this show, we opened up a contest for people who know how to play guitar," he explained to the audience, "and so I’d like to invite you to give a big round of applause for our contest winner.”
Skiba replaced Tom DeLonge in 2015, when the guitarist left the band. He was part of the lineup for seven years and recorded two albums with blink before parting ways to make room for DeLonge's return in 2022. The intimate show on Thursday night (February 13) took place at the Hollywood Palladium in Los Angeles and was a benefit show to help with wildlife relief efforts. All proceeds from the concert were donated to the Pasadena Humane Society, California Fire Department, LAFD Foundation, and ARC Firefighter Fund.
